Hiding In Plain Sight by Angela Evans

Being a teen is tough, but being a teen in a new town is one of the hardest things ever. Kierra Centerand was 17 years old and for the first time in a long time, she was HAPPY! She’d just left a party where she’d laughed, danced and made out with the quarterback, Bryan Donaldson, and all she could think about was seeing him again… and sneaking back in the house before anyone noticed she was gone. Hiding in Plain Sight - a romance suspense from Angela Evans

Suddenly and without warning, her entire world exploded in front of her eyes – the only thing saving her own life was the fact that Bryan had quietly followed behind her to be sure she made it home safely. In an instant, her entire family was gone and she was left alone to face the rest of her life.

And that’s just the prelude to Angela Evan’s inaugural book, Hiding in Plain Sight.

Hiding in Plain Sight is a romance suspense book that follows Kierra 10 years later, now a shell of her former vivacious self, as she returns to her hometown looking for closure on the tragedy that wrecked her once happy life. She’s long felt that the explosion was not an accident but rather the work of her stepfather whom she and her mother had left in the middle of the night. No one believed her then and she’s determined to either prove it was murder or at the very least, close the door on her painful past.

Revisiting the abandoned building that used to house her grandfather’s hardware store, she has a chance encounter with Bryan who is now the town’s Sheriff. As all good romance novels go, they both realize that there’s still a lot of chemistry between them – although neither is ready to admit it. At first.

Bryan remembers that night just as vividly as Kierra does and takes it on himself to see if there’s any validity to her claim. As they close in on the truth of that night and whether or not her stepfather is still alive and a danger to her, the attraction and passion between the two of them becomes more than either of them bargained for.

From The Back Cover:

Kierra Centerand was once vivacious and outgoing, that all changed the night her stepfather killed her family in an explosion that authorities wrote off as an accident. Now, ten years later Kierra has returned to the small town of Briarview to find answers, confront her demons, and see if she can finally move on with her life. Not much has changed, Briarview is still the quaint, charming, small town Kierra left behind. Only now her high school boyfriend is the sheriff, and her stepfather is somewhere in the town, hiding in plain sight.

When Bryan Donaldson sees Kierra again for the first time he is surprised, she’s no longer the fun blonde he remembers, but rather she’s shy, prone to panic attacks, and hiding from the world. When Kierra’s stepfather starts making threats, Bryan is determined to keep her safe in his arms, and in his bed, for life.

Evans freshman book is a great debut and one that’s a fast and easy read.  There is the right amount of romance and steam to mix with the “whodunit” aspect. There were a few areas where I wished for more elaboration and depth to the “suspense” part of the storyline but all in all it was a book that I enjoyed. It’s time to start adding books to your vacation list and I promise you won’t be disappointed by this escape!
