Welcome to the Online Home for Kristen Daukas & “Just Kristen”!
This site originally launched in 2004 under the name Four Hens and a Rooster as a way for our families to watch our three girls growing up. As the years progressed, the site became a resource for parents raising their kids – offering a more humorous approach to parenting that hopefully would save a little bit of sanity and give comfort that perfection in parenting was a myth.
Fast forward 13 years and the site has evolved into much more than ‘just’ parenting and my writing covers many more topics such as entertainment, technology, social media, food, general life musings, and dealing with the unique challenges of raising teenagers. While I don’t write specifically about my family anymore, it’s still my main job to raise three strong and independent teenage daughters (aged 13, 15 and 18) and I’ll sometimes write about situations they encounter in an effort to let other parents know they’re not alone. Our house is a revolving door of “bonus kids” who love to stop by, visit, eat my food, and add to the laughter and chaos. Throw in some rescue pets – 3 cats and 1 dog (I jokingly refer to them as Josie and the Pussycats) and it’s a complete 3-ring circus!
I live in Winston-Salem, NC which is almost smack dab in the middle of the beautiful state of NC and home to the famous Reynolds Building which was the prototype for the Empire State Building. Raleigh is an hour or so to the east of me and Charlotte is just over an hour south.
Here, There, and Everywhere!
In 2011, I started the site Ten to Twenty Parenting which is a community site and information resource for parents of teens and tweens and the unique parenting challenges they’re facing. In 2016 I launched Social Savvy Workshops to teach parents and other adults the technology and social sites their kids and teens are using through coaching sessions offered in small groups,
When I’m not playing the role of events and scheduling coordinator for my family, I’m the Director of Digital and Social Media Marketing for a web and marketing agency and am active in the community. I oversee the technology conference, ConvergeSouth, served two years as the President of Professional Women on Winston-Salem and am the co-founder of Linking Winston-Salem. I frequently speak on topics such as social media, technology, parenting and women’s issues and was a top 5 finalist in the 2015 & 2012 Shorty Awards for “Parent in Social Media”.

We worked with Kristen on a blogger review campaign. We were working with a client within a pretty unique category and whose product was only sold online. The product addressed specific skin conditions and the price point was much higher than comparable products, but it offered innovative technology their competitors would not have. We knew this was going to be a product sold by ‘word-of-mouth’ online and we reached out to Kristen to help us identify and recruit relevant bloggers with a great social media presence.
Kristen found a very qualified pool of bloggers who were affected either themselves or someone in the home with this condition. She vetted them and provided complete contact information in under a week, which was excellent turnaround time. She found us exactly who we were looking for and saved us several hours of online searching.
Our blogger review program was a great success and we saw an immediate uptick in sales within weeks. The bloggers posted thoughtful, candid reviews and had a broad influence of reach across all social media platforms. We would definitely work with Kristen again on a campaign!Debbie Fuchs
