Personal Shopping Experience with Style Encore
Last year, I weighed the most that I have ever weighed without there being a baby involved. My cholesterol and blood pressure were up and while part of that is genetic (thanks Mom and Dad…), it was more because of the extra weight that I was carrying around. I made the decision that I needed to lose weight and then promptly did nothing about it.
We all have the excuses on why we don’t do it… no time, no energy, no interest and so on.
Then summer rolled around and
we I decided that we were going to get a membership at the local Y and when school started, I finally got off my tail and into the gym. Slowly but surely the weight started to come off and for the first time since I don’t know when, I saw that I actually had a waist and certain clothes that I hadn’t been able to wear in a long time (WHY were they still even in my closet?!) started to fit and then before I knew it… nothing was fitting on me – at all.
My good friend Shannon Kemp has a high-end fashion resell store here in Winston – Style Encore – and I have always loved shopping there. She’s in the process of opening her 2nd location in Greensboro (you go girl!!) and I popped in the new store one day a few weeks ago to see how it was going. Shannon greeted me with the usual hug and banter until she looked at my outfit and had a good ol’ southern hissy fit that I wasn’t wearing clothes that fit. She made me promise that I would schedule an appointment for one of their FREE! personal shopping appointments and I decided that it WAS time to get some style
back in my life. Plus, at this rate, I was going to be down to maybe one outfit that I could wear.
Free Personal Shopper Service
Shannon sent me a 2 page form (similar to what you fill out for services like LeTote or StitchFix) so that they could have an idea what I liked and what sizes that I wear. They also want to know what you DON’T like (for instance, for me it’s animal print) as well as what you ideally WANT from the whole experience. I’ve worked hard to get my body back to a shape other than round, so I was all for having Shannon and her team push me out of my comfort zone. I emailed the form back to her and set up my 2-hour appointment for the next week.. already anxious to see what kind of goodies they would conjure up for me!
When we got to the store, Shannon and Yvon were ready and waiting for me with a dressing room FULL of clothes ready for me to try on. They ran thru some basic “rules” which basically are keep an open mind and if there’s anything you absolutely hate, let us know and we’ll take it out. Seems simple enough, right?
I stepped into the dressing room and no joke, there must have been 20 COMPLETE outfits waiting for me. Each one had an accessory with it as well as shoes that would complete the outfit. It was unreal. Once I had a few seconds to absorb it all, Shannon and Yvon asked what my initial thoughts were. I loved them all but they were a bit heavy on “work” attire. Considering that I work from my home office 3 days of the week, I just don’t have a need for that much work attire. We turned our focus to the outfits that were more “fun” than “work” to see what it was about those outfits that I really liked and they went back out to the floor to do their magic.
While they were gone, it was time for me to get busy trying on all the different beauties they had chosen for me!! Some were misses but the majority of them were major wins!!
Here are a few of the wins that ended up coming home with me…
Love this dress because it’s perfect for work (ahem.. I’ve already spoken in it 😉 ) but can absolutely work for a night out on the town or for dinner with your favorite person!
In a million years I would never have chosen this for myself, but the reason that Shannon and Yvon chose it is because of the fit and how slimming it was… apparently that black “line” lengthens and slims. Who knew?! Again.. another great 9-5 OR date-night selection!
Now this is getting closer to my normal “office” garb. Capris. Believe it or not, the longest discussion that day was about pant length. I love capris but apparently they’re not in style anymore. Or they are but the fashionable length is at the ankles. I loathe having anything on my ankles. I don’t know why but it bugs the crap out of me. Luckily we all came to a happy medium.
I’m telling you… I was feeling a little of my ONJ at the end of Grease coming out in these pants. LOVE the pedal pusher length and best of all? They weren’t falling off! Great top with colors that I love!!
Would you believe this ended up being my favorite outfit? The funniest part about these pants is that they had brought them for me to try and my amazing assistant, Sydney, told them that I would hate them so they put them back on the rack. Luckily, they just happened to catch my eye and I had to try them on… I loved them so much I didn’t even let the fact that they fall at my ankles bother me! I normally find it so hard to find womens work pants so I was absolutely delighted with this pair! I had seen some similar pants online a few days ago so it was amazing to get to try a pair on.
Why am I smiling so much in this picture? THOSE PANTS ARE A SIZE 6!!! A SIX people! I can’t even tell you the last time I saw a 6! Quite possibly the 6th grade?!
The whole thing took just over 2 hours and in the end, I took home 12 pieces, 2 accessories and 2 pairs of shoes.
One thing about me is that I hate to shop. I know, I know… I should have my girl-card revoked but seriously, I would rather be bludgeoned than forced to shop for clothes and that’s one of the reasons that I have always loved shopping at Style Encore. I know that I can go in there, tell them what I’m looking for and let them do the work for me. Their staff is talented, up on all the latest trends and best part? They know where everything is which saves me from mindlessly sorting thru racks of clothes. Yawn.
I’ve gotten tons of compliments on the new styles and fit that I’ve been sporting since working with Shannon and Yvon and even popped back in a couple of weeks ago because I needed a couple of cocktail dresses for some events coming up. Again, they asked questions about the events that I was going to and proceeded to bring me a variety to choose from. The little number that I chose for last week’s Grand Opening event at The Kimpton Cardinal? Style Encore!! This hot, little Calvin Klein dress set me back a whopping $27!! So the next time you need a wow-inspiring cocktail dress that won’t set you back? Style Encore, ladies!!
