House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Orange – Oh My, Netflix!

So Much More Great Stuff Coming Up on Netflix!

I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 months since I was in California with Netflix at the TCAs!! Still kinda buzzing high from it – especially since a lot of the ‘sneak peeks’ we were seeing are finally showing! As you know, the big reason we were asked out there was to cover Fuller House and Degrassi: Next Generation but now the other shows that we sat in on are launching, too!!

House of Cards –

This debuted on March 4th and yes… as of this past Friday night, we’re done. I’m already experiencing campaign withdrawals but since I know a lot haven’t watched it yet, I won’t go into any details. Yet. Consider yourself warned because I will be doing a full House of Cards recap and if you haven’t watched by the time I write it, consider yourself warned with a spoiler alert. I will say this.. this was one of the best seasons since the first one. We weren’t that into the 3rd one as a lot of people weren’t. But boy howdy… did this one make up for it. Big time. Sadly… there was no HOC panel at TCA. But there was this wicked oval office set and well… you know me… give me a good backdrop and I’ll pose for days.

Debuts April 15th. You may call it tax day but I call it PINOT NOIR DAY!!! Can I just tell you that I was a little fan girl crazy sitting in the same room as THE Tina Fey?! I mean, y’all… I was this close to the woman who put it so eloquently – “Bitches Get Stuff Done.” Yes. Yes we do, Tina.

This season, we’ll see Kimmy get a little bit more worldly.. in other words… you can’t keep a good girl down but you also can’t fool her just because she was in a bunker for all those years. There will be some new faces as well as your favorites like Titus(!) and rumor has it THE Tina Fey will make another appearance! Speaking of Titus… did I mention that I met him?? He was the only person that I asked for a picture with and he was SO accommodating!!

Not only is Season 4 premiering on June 17th but they’ve already announced that there will be 3 more seasons after that! So  much love for the Ladies of Litchfield and there was a huge turnout for their panel at TCA. I wish I could tell you tons of juicy gossip, but they were not saying much. One of my favorite moments of this panel was when one of the actresses addressed binge watching. Her response when people complain that they have to wait a whole year for the next season was simply “don’t watch them all at one time.. problem solved”. Loved it but who can possibly do that??

A Final Note on Fuller House

By now you’ve had a chance to see the family show darling of Netflix, Fuller House and if you haven’t – what are you waiting for?!  All three of my girls burned thru it about 2 days and were so excited when I told them that there was a second season already in the works!

However, as expected, the line was drawn down the middle of those who loved it (and binged on it!) and those who hated it. Reading the reviews for those that didn’t like it, I noted one similar theme – everyone was comparing it to the original.

Friends – this show was never intended to be a remake but rather, a reboot. It’s taking something that is warm and familiar and making it its own show. Are the usual suspects there? Yes. Are the inside jokes similar? Yes. That’s part of the ‘warm and familiar”. But if you watch with an open mind, you’ll see that this is not Danny Tanner and company but rather, 3 girls who grew up together and have come back to join forces the same way many of us do with our own childhood friends. If this were a remake, they would have brought Danny and team back and had them raising DJ’s kids… not giving DJ, Stephanie and Gibler their own show.

It’s not meant to be rocket science – it’s meant to be a show that the whole family can watch together. That was the entire purpose behind the Netflix executive team’s decision. So give Gibler a chance and enjoy it for what it is. Family entertainment.

If you can’t tell, I had the best time with my fellow streamteam members in California at the TCAs.. it really was an amazing trip and I would jump at the chance to go again.
